My Survivor 2022 Persuasive Writing

 This is a draft, I'm writing this in the context of where my parents do not give me permission to go to survival night 2022, this is my counter-argument.

Hey Mum & Dad,

Remember how you always growl me for staying in my room? Well for the last two days of this week, the thought of that room wont even scratch the back of my head. Next week my class are going to the bush, A.K.A  survival night 2022, and I would really love to go.

I know you would be against it, but hear me out first.

My first reason is that I will have a magical experience. Ill have lots of fun, going swimming, bombing, dancing and roasting marshmallows. I’ll be going bird spotting, doing funny puppet shows, and spending time with lots of other people/friends which is gonna  improve my social skills. It’ll also test my ability to work with others and make it improve , which would be helpful when working with others in school. There will be activites out of my comfort zone, forcing me to try out new things, boosting my confidence, revitalising my passion for the outdoors, and possibly convince me to join in on school events/ sign up for after school activities or training.

An I know, I know “How do we know your gonna be safe?” well, there will be constant supervision and all the adults there are first aid trained. Its all  reward an no risk, pretty neat huh?

Another reason I think I should go to survival night is that I will be learning lots of new skills. I’ll be learning how to make emergency shelters, start a fire, and cook which would be beneficial if I end up in those kinds of situation and possibly save my life. (plus you won’t have to cook for me anymore). It wil also be beneficial to me physically, cuz’ there’s  steep mountains and the environment is different from what Ive experienced being outside, which would make my body work exceptionally hard to keep going. It would also benefit me mentally, making me think about the things I should bring, “will this weigh me down?” “is this necessary?” “ its useful but heavy, should I bring this?” etc. I’ll also be learning how to treat huts(hut etiquette), and how to work with maps, learning how to navigate our way through places when  we get lost.

That is why I think I should go to survival night, it would help me physically, mentally, and overall give me a tremendous time. So please, please let me go! Don’t I deserve a little adventure in my life? Think about it, I’ll be out of your hair for 2 days, 2 days! Please don’t take away this opportunity from me.

Love,

Mesui.

BLOG Devotion Reflection

 We are created in God's image. This means I have God given creativity and talents.

This week we read the parable of the three servants, It was about a wealthy Master who was leaving his home for a trip, before he left he gave bags of silver to three of his servants according to their abilities, he gave five bags of silver to the first servant, two bags of silver to the second servant and one bag of silver for the third servant.

The first servant got to work and invested the money, he ended up doubling the amount he had been given, the second servant did the same thing and doubled the amount of silver he had, but the third servant knew his master was a hard man to please, so in fear of losing the silver he buried it underground and left it their until his master returned.

When the Master returned he lined up the three servants and asked them what they did with the money he gave them "I invested the silver, and doubled the amount you had given me" the first servant replied, the Master was pleased with him and was proud of what he had achieved.

The second servant also had the same answer and the Master was pleased with him too. When the master asked the third servant what he had done, the servant replied " I knew you were a hard man to please, and I couldn't trust myself with your money so in fear I buried it in the earth, here is your money" The Master was furious with him "you wicked and lazy servant! why didn't you deposit my money in to the bank? I atleast could've gotten some interest on it!" The Master banished the servant from his household and sent him away.

What this parable has taught me is that God has gifted us with talents and that we should never neglect them or they will be taken away from us.

We can use our talents to help other people and bring joy to them, we can use them for many things, but most importantly we can use them to praise God.

This where I'm good at, I excel in spacial intelligence.

My limerick poems

 Here are two Limerick poems I have created :)

There once was a boy named David,

He was a shepherd who was really dedicated,

Then one day he met a giant Philistine,

Who he slew and became Israel's king,

That was the boy named David.

There once was a boy named Seth,

He ran around a lot so he was always out of breath,

Then one day he ran too fast,

He ran straight into a wall which resulted in a crash,

That was the boy named Seth.

The features of a river

Embracing forgiveness

What is mass failure and how does it affect the quality of the water? script

 in Class, we have been creating tasks related to water, to complete and present in a neat fashion. Me and my friend Alice have decided to do a puppet show, surrounding the topic of Mass failure, we have spent lots of time on this script and decided "why not let others read this?" so if you cant make it to our show, I hope you soak up a lot of information from this script :)

What is Mass Failure and how does  it affect quality of the river

ALICE(SANDY):

 So, what are we learning today, Frank?

MESUI(FRANK):

We are learning about…Mass failure.

ALICE:

What do you know about Mass failure, Frank?

MESUI(FRANK):

 Mass failure is when the bank falls and tumbles into the river. It affects the water quality and shape.

ALICE(SANDY):

But, why is it so important-

ALICE(REBECCA):

Hey guys! What are we talking about?

MESUI(FRANK):

Mass failure.

ALICE(REBECCA):

 Can I join?

ALICE(SANDY):

 Yeah, I need to do something else, my apologies, Bye Frank! Bye Becka!

MESUI(FRANK):

Bye! So, Rebecca, we’re just looking at websites for info.

Hey, I found something! ‘What causes steambank erosion?’ It says this: Mass failure(which includes bank collapse and slumping) is where large chunks of bank material become unstable and topple into the stream or river. That is how it affects the shape of the river.

ALICE(REBECCA):

That was a very good website, lots of information, and easy to understand, although I am still wondering, what does Mass failure have to do with the quality though?

MESUI(FRANK):

The contents of the sediment carried in the bank material can add dirtiness and bacteria into the river.

Get it now?

ALICE(REBECCA):

Sediment? Isn't that like dirt, rocks and other stuff right?

MESUI(FRANK):

That's a simpler way of putting it.

ALICE(REBECCA):

I guess you could say we’ve hit rock bottom ay?

MESUI(SARCASTIC FRANK):
Haha… so funny…

ALICE(SANDY):

Hey, I’m back. Rebecca, your sister wants you.

What were we talking about again?

Right, mass failure.

TELL ME MORE.

MESUI(FRANK):

Hey, calm down ya farm!

I dont know everything about mass failure, but he does… Say hello to Harold! If theres any extra info that you would like to know about mass failure, I bet ya that Harold would know about it,

also, bye Beck!

ALICE(REBECCA):

Bye!

ALICE(SANDY):

Bye Rebecca!

MESUI(HAROLD THE GIRAFFE) Pretend he has a lisp:

Mass failure, huh?

Well, I’ll make sure you know everything about it.

Before we start, What are we talking about?

How it affects the quality of the river, or how it occurs, what?

Alice(SANDY):

How mass failure affects the river, actually, what did you say?

MESUI(HAROLD THE GIRAFFE):

How it affects the quality of the river or how it occurs. Why?

ALICE(SANDY):

We’ll take that second option thanks.

MESUI(HAROLD THE GIRAFFE):

Oh… Okay then, listen up kids First, what is erosion?

Dirt that has been worn down by wind, or water.

Mass failure affects the quality of the river because it has dirt that contaminates the river

ALICE(SANDY):

We covered that.

MESUI(HAROLD THE GIRAFFE):

And I totally knew that.

ALICE(SANDY):

Sorry

MESUI(HAROLD THE GIRAFFE):

Its okay. now , where was I?

Mass failure affects the shape because it falls-

ALICE(SANDY):

We’ve covered that too

MESUI(FRANK):

bruh

MESUI(HAROLD THE GIRAFFE):

Bruh, listen kid, don’t interrupt me.

Now, mass failure happens because of the lower part of the river becoming unstable.

ALICE(REBECCA):

Thats it?

MESUI(HAROLD THE GIRAFFE):

yup.

MESUI(FRANK):

Hey Rebecca, where’d you come from?

ALICE(REBECCA):

I stayed here this whole time.

MESUI(FRANK):

Okay then… well anyways thanks Harold

MESUI AND ALICE(PUPPETS):

*bows down*

Thank you and goodbye.

Recount HOT Task 2022 Term 2

 This term we were set the task of retelling family story and making them into a past tense recount, here is mine.

Long long long ago, A.K.A August, me and my family were very excited to move into our new house. Just before we moved all of our belongings into a gigantic truck and drove it all the way to Kaikohe.

During the trip our parents gave us up and go due to the fact that we missed out on breakfast while packing up, I finished my up and go but was still thirsty, I looked around seeing if there was anything else to drink then I saw it

 I turned around to be greeted by the sight of a V drink, it had just been sitting there from earlier when my parents were at the gas station, hypnotized by the thought of a cold refreshing drink I grabbed the V but only took a tiny sip, little did I know that tiny sip would be fatal.

 Later on during the trip my body started to itch and burn, my torso and scalp felt like they were on fire and I was in a bad condition with excruciating pain rippling through my body. Pain, agony, exhaustion— “when will it stop?” I asked myself as tears ran down my face.

When we got to the house I sat in the corner crying as my face started to swell up, it started to get difficult when trying to breath so my mother kicked me back straight into the car then took me to the Hospital. When we arrived at the Hospital I could barley move and I started to lose my eyesight.

Once we got inside of the Hospital my vision was gone, I had gone completley blind and I couldnt see anything, then just afterwards I collapsed on the ground unconscious,  forcing the doctors to wheel me off in a wheelchair.

When I woke up my vision was still blurry but I could still make out the things I saw and what they were. My mother was sitting next to me and there was nurses/doctors walking about and doing things, my eyesight started to get better  and I could see them bring a needle close towards my arm.

They stuck the needle into my arm and injected something into it, turns out they injected adrenaline into my arm which made my body start to lightly shake

Figurative language

This term, we have been learning about figurative language and the difference between literal and figurative. I find idioms very difficult to interpret in sentences, so I have set that as my current goal to try and understand idioms better and use them more in my sentences.

using knowledge of the text features

In our class, the topic is science and water. We have been learning to use our knowledge from the text to provide good answers for these slides. The text features we've been using are subheadings, titles, diagrams, graphs, images, and lead sentences.In our class, the topic is science and water. Hot Task Thirst week 8

“Ryder!” his Dad shouted, “Ryder you little thief get out here right now!he demanded, Ryder heard this from a mile away and had already situated himself a spot to hide in one hour before his parents arrived.He sat in his little cubby hole regretting his decisions and wondering what his parents would do when they find him. “I know you're there you little runt!” When Ryder heard this his face turned pale, not only did it send a chill down his spine it sounded very close. Countless thoughts began to flood his brain, I can't just stay here! What will happen when he finds me? he thought. Ryder decided to take a peek out of the hole,  see if it was safe to move and locate another hiding spot, Ryder poked his head slowly out of the hole and scanned the area, and there he saw him-Dad.

Ryders eyelids opened wider as his stomach sank, his hands were sweating and his entire body was trembling, Dads head slowly turned to his direction and when Ryder saw this he quickly snapped back into his hole.Ryder heard the heavy footsteps of his old man, shaking the ground as he made his way towards Ryders hiding spot, every thump basically telling him “its over”.

Ryder noticed a large shadow reigning over him and his cubby hole, he tried to move but couldnt, he was perfectly still but not at the right time, it was like his feet had been implanted into the ground.“So you've been here the whole time…” Ryder didnt respond, he couldnt say a word, he just sat there with wide eyes and large amounts of sweat running down his face.

The silence was screaming at him, he could feel the intense staring of his father on his back, weighing him down  and filling his eyes with oceans of tears, enough tears to somewhat hydrate the parched, dry, surface. “You gonna talk or what!” his Dad shouted, Ryder still remained silent, “well get ready to run

that mouth of yours cause you're gonna come home, take all the water you stole and give it back to the Carters! If i'm correct they should be home in fifteen minutes, just in time for you too apologize too.” just the very thought of facing the Carters after what he had done gave him goosebumps. Ryders Dad tightly gripped the back of his t-shirt and pulled him out of the hole, “ c’mon, better do it quickly before your behind ends up in jail.” Ryder followed his Dad all the way back to their house were Brooke and mom were. Before approaching the front door Ryder could see his mother through window, pacing about the living room with an anxious look on her face, while Brooke was sleeping on the couch with dried up tears on her cheek.

“Oh thank goodness your okay!” Mom exclaimed, a confused look formed on Ryders face, too his surprise his mom wasn't as mad as his father was, this made him him somewhat relieved and happy to come back home, “No time for heartwarming reunions, get outside and do what you were told to do!” dad interrupted, mom went back to the couch to comfort Brooke while Ryder springed back outside, making his way to the hose. He carefully stuck the hose into the tank and started extracting the water, as the clear water passed through the hose he thought “we could've had all this water, just for ourselves and he ruined it…”. Ryder made his way across the street to the Carters house and filled up the half filled tank, he thought about what the Carters would say once they found out, he didnt wanna think about it he just wanted to get things over and done.

He finished filling the tank just a the Carters arrived back from work,”ahh there thay are!” dad exclaimed, “whats going on here?” “my son here has something too say,” Ryder got the signal from his father to apoligise to the Carters, Ryder made his way towards the  Carters, every beat of his heart getting slower with every step,” This after noon I came home from school and stole half of the water in your tank, I apoligise for my actions and hope you can forgive me…” The Carters had no response their expression was blank and they didnt even move. A while of awkward silence had stoped when the Carters dismissed them and walked into their house, “what do we do now?” asked Ryder, “we go home thats what we do.” his father responded, they made their way home and went to sleep. The next morning they woke up to a surprise, an AQUA PLEX truck was outside and filling up their tank, “why ya fillin up our tanks” mum asked, “well your neighbors over there payed for your water, pretty generous if ya ask me,”  they turned to see the Carters smiling at them through the window,” thank the LORD” dad said, they all celebrated as the sprinklers drenched them in fresh, clean water concluding this story.

dont go on a ride if you think your gonna fall off🤦

Hey yall I have been learning to use show not tell to make my narratives interesting.

To do this I have tried to include all sorts of figurative language in my writing. I've tried to show not tell through the dialogue and the actions of my characters, I have been trying to describe their thoughts and looks to show their feelings.

The Ride

 There were once two sisters who were not at all alike; they were different in every way.

The Older sister was on the more adventurous side, doing dangerous stunts, enjoying the sunlight, and Playing with her friends all day, never having a second thought about what she was doing. But the younger sister was quite the opposite,  spending her days isolating herself within the walls of her room, every day losing herself in books never wanting to see what was on the outside.

One faithful morning

The mother of these two had splendid news, “We're going to Rainbows End!” The eldest sister shouted with joy while the younger sister's face turned pale instantly “Are you joking? I can't go there!“ she shouted as sweat and tears trickled down her face. “eh don’t be a baby!“ the older sister exclaimed, she tightly gripped the younger sister's hands and dragged her outside to the car, “stop! Let me go!“ the younger sister shouted, their mother dismissed her words then pushed her in the car. As soon as they got there the older sister went straight to the nearest ride and begged to go on it “It's huge!“ she said “it looks rather unstable, are you sure it's safe?“ the younger sister whispered “don't judge a book by its cover!“ the older sister said with a grin.

It was only a mere two minutes before she was strapped in and ready to go, “have fun!” the mother shouts, she was twitchy and jumpy, her face said it all. The ride started and she looked confused, she thought the ride just spun her in circles for a handful of minutes but the ride rose off the floor and started swinging, at that moment her smile had faded as she realized she made a very big mistake. Her face went pale as she froze in place with nothing in her brain but the words “get me off” she closed her eyes and let out an ear-piercing shriek as she rose hundreds of feet off the air, up, down, left, right, it seemed to go for an endless amount of time, she drenched her clothes in tears as she screamed her sisters name the whole way through.

When the ride had ended she couldn't move, she was completely frozen in place, hair sticking up, clothes soaked in tears, and heart beating rapidly like African drums, I guess you could say there was a rhythm to it. She was frozen in place like a deer in headlights, not being able to lift a finger

The younger sister was also terrified, she looked as if she had been to war and survived, sweat ran down her fingertips as she grimaced at the sight of her sister, but still, even with pure terror in her heart, she hopped onto the ride, at that very moment the younger sister seemed like a whole different person, it looked as if she was being controlled by her sister due too how bold she was in that exact time.

When the younger sister hopped onto the ride she wrapped her arms around her sister and then comforted her as she started questioning her actions “ I can't believe you roped me into this,” she chuckled as the ride started moving. The older sister closed her eyes and a smile slowly started to form on her face, “hold on!” the older sister said, “oh I will!” the younger sister said as she tightly gripped her sisters tear soaked shirt.

The ride ended and the two sisters came off the ride traumatized, but happy, “ I guess you weren't such a wuss after all,”  the older sister said, “ yea… I guess so.” the younger sister agreed, They laughed the whole back to their mother, forming a new friendship.

Hatchet, it's a good read, so just read it smh.

In class, I read Hatchet. I have been thinking about the author's message.  We had to write a reading response to the book in testing conditions. here it is :P

During my time in room s2 as a year 7 student,I have come across Hatchet, a book written by author Gary Paulson and has a wonderful,yet unpredictable story. This book has taught me a lot of skills and tricks that may very well be useful to me in the upcoming future and has given me motivation to keep pushing  through the school year.

To sum up this book, it is about a young 13 year old boy named Brian Robeson,he sets out to see his father who is currently residing in Canada but cannot do so since his airplane has crashed into the Canadian wilderness. As the book progresses on Brian is challenged to survive on his own in the Canadian forests wandering endlessly,hoping help comes for him. The longer he stayed in the forest,the more survival skills he had, Brian fights for his life until he is saved, eventually concluding the book.

Now that you know all about the book I want to talk about the message that the author Gary Paulson is trying to send us. What I think this book is trying to do is it is trying to set us up for the real world, once you have reached that certain point in your life you are on your own, you need to get a job, you need to make money, you need to know how to survive and that is what this book is teaching us, it is teaching us how to set ourselves up for success but in a entertaining way. The message that we are receiving from this book is to always learn from your mistakes and try to improve to get a better outcome/result. In this book Brian tries many different and unique ways to get what he wants, you can't get something instantly,you have to work for it.

 During chapter 10 Brian tries to light a fire with his hatchet and a rock. He tears up a twenty dollar bill to improvise for paper,unfortunately this does not work, the first attempt failed. Later on he tried to use thin birch strips to light the fire, again his attempts made no progress whatsoever, attempt two, failed. Finally on his third attempt he decided to put the twenty dollar bill and the birch strips together and alas, it worked. He was finally warm. You can see that this chapter is a good example of learning from your mistakes and trying new/unique ways to succeed, If you just have the right mindset and enough motivation you can achieve anything.To sum this all up, mistakes are good and we need to learn from them. We need to learn new things everyday to improve and we need to always find the good side of things, in other words stay positive. Find your source of motivation and keep pushing forward. If you keep learning you will be successful in life and spend the rest of your days with a smile on your face.

This book changed my life and hopefully it will change yours too.
